DESCRIPTION: To 32kg (70lb ish) A powerful - large mouthed fish. A good sporting fish. An average Common Carp will be between 50cm and 70cm (20ins to 28ins) A big Carp is around the 90cm (3ft) mark and 14kg (30lb) or more.

DISTRIBUTION: The Common Carp is widely distributed in Britain. Most stocked lakes, rivers and some canals will have a population of Common Carp but wild fish are predominantly found in rivers.

HABITS: Common Carp are usually solitary fish sometimes shoaling to feed.

DIET: The natural diet includes anything edible that moves - insects, larvae, small fish.

BAITS: Popular baits include:  Boily, bread, casters, maggots, shrimp, tinned meats, cheese and worm.

METHOD: A variety of fishing methods are popular with anglers for this fish, including float and ledger.

Leather carp are scaleless or almost scaleless.

Mirror Carp have exceptionally large scales along the sides and sometimes at the base of the dorsal fin.
