DESCRIPTION:
To 1.8kg (4lb) A deep bodied fish with a distinctly high back.
A good sporting fish. An average fish will be about 15cm (6ins)
A big Crucian Carp is around the 50cm (20ins) mark.
DISTRIBUTION: The Crucian
Carp is widely distributed in England but absent from Ireland
and Scotland. Most
lowland rivers and some canals will have a population of Crucian
Carp but
predominantly
found in pools and lakes.
HABITS: Crucian
Carp are solitary
- shoaling fish
DIET: The natural diet includes
plants - insects and larvae.
BAITS: Popular baits include: Bread,
casters, maggots, shrimp, tinned meats, cheese and worm.
METHOD: A variety of fishing
methods are popular with anglers for this fish, including float and
ledger.
