Dace

AKA Dart fish.
DESCRIPTION:
To 0.6kg (1lb 6oz) A slim bodied fish with a small mouth and
narrow head. A good sporting fish. An average fish will be between
15cm and 25cm (6ins to 10ins) A big Dace is around the 30cm (1ft) mark.
DISTRIBUTION: The Dace
is widely distributed in England and Wales but absent from most
of Ireland and Scotland. Most
rivers and some canals will have a population of Dace but
predominantly
found in rivers. It also occurs in lakes but rarely.
HABITS: Dace are
shoaling fish occupying the middle reaches of rivers and brooks
DIET: The natural diet of Dace includes
- insects and larvae.
BAITS: Popular baits include: Casters
and maggots.
METHOD: A variety of fishing
methods are popular with anglers for this fish, including float fishing.
