An average fish will be around 20cm (8ins) and 0.25kg (8oz) A big Perch is around the 40cm (16ins) mark, weighing in at 5lb or so. DISTRIBUTION: The Perch is widely distributed in England, Ireland and Wales but absent from most of Scotland. Most rivers, lakes and canals will have a population of Perch. HABITS: Perch are both solitary and shoaling fish depending on the population density, size and age of the fish. Older large fish tend to be solitary DIET: The natural diet includes anything edible that moves - insects, larvae, small fish. BAITS: Popular baits include: Maggots, tinned meats and worm. METHOD: A variety of fishing methods are popular with anglers for this fish, including float, ledger and spinning. GOOD LOCATIONS: Just about anywhere.
