Roach ~ Rutilus rutilusDESCRIPTION: To 1.8kg (4lb) A moderately deep bodied fish. A good sporting fish essential to match anglers. An average fish will be between 20cm and 35cm (8ins to 14ins) A big Roach is around the 40-45cm (16-18ins) mark. Any fish over 0.9kg (2lb) is considered a specimen and a 1.35kg (3lb) - a fish of a lifetime! DISTRIBUTION: The Roach is widely distributed throughout England, Wales, Ireland and lowland Scotland. Most rivers, lakes, pools, land drains and canals will have a population of Roach. HABITS: Roach are shoaling fish DIET: The natural diet includes anything edible - vegetable matter, seeds, insects, larvae, plankton. BAITS: Popular baits include: Hempseed, bread, castors, maggots, stewed wheat, shrimp, tinned meats, cheese and small red worm, mini-boilies.
