Ruffe ~ Gymnocephalus cernuaDESCRIPTION: A member of the Perch family - To 0.5kg (1lb) A similar looking fish to the Perch. Females larger than the males. The dorsal fins are united. An average fish will be between 15cm and 18cm (6ins to 7ins) A big Ruffe fish is around the 25cm (10ins) mark. DISTRIBUTION: The Ruffe fish is widely distributed in lowland Britain. A few lakes, rivers and some canals will have a population of Ruffe but predominantly found in lakes and rivers. HABITS: Ruffe are shoaling fish DIET: The natural diet includes anything edible that moves - insects, larvae, fry. BAITS: Popular baits include: Casters, maggots, shrimp, tinned meats, cheese and worm. METHOD: A variety of fishing methods are popular with anglers for this fish, including float, and ledger. GOOD LOCATIONS: No free Ruffe fishing known at this time.
