Zander ~ Stizostedion lucioperca
AKA Pikeperch
DESCRIPTION:
To 0kg (0lb) A powerful predatory - large mouthed fish. A good
sporting fish. An average fish will be about 60cm (2ft) A big Zander
is around the 1mtr (3ft) mark.
DISTRIBUTION: The Zander
is widely distributed in lowland Britain but absent from Ireland. Most
lowland rivers and some canals will have a population of Zander but
predominantly
found in rivers.
HABITS: Zander are
solitary fish but will forrage in 'packs'.
DIET: The natural diet includes
anything edible that moves - small fish, ducklings and amphjibians.
BAITS: Popular baits include: live
and dead baits.
METHOD: A variety of fishing
methods are popular with anglers for this fish, including float,
ledger, lure and spinning.
GOOD LOCATIONS: Free Zander
fishing in the fens!
